Lyndee Named to United States Ski Team-Summer 2006
Manistee’s Lyndee Janowiak, age 19, has been named to the United States Ski Team Development Team.
Janowiak, a 2005 graduate of Manistee High School, recently concluded a terrific season by accepting a position on the U.S National Team.
A skier since the age of two and a racer since age four, Janowiak has had her share of success in the sport of alpine ski racing. Highlights include four Junior Olympic titles (twice winning overall titles), three times Janowiak represented her country in international competitions (twice at the Whistler Cup, in British Columbia, and once at the Trofeo Topolino events in Pinzolo, Italy), in 2004 Janowiak was the J2 National Giant Slalom Champion. The past two season’s Janowiak has had numerous top 15 results in NorAm competitions and had her first Europa Cup starts in downhill and super-g at Megeve, France in January.
Janowiak’s training and competition began with the Manistee Ski Club doing inter-club racing in the early years and later competing in United States Ski Association (USSA) events. At age 15 Janowiak moved to Breckenridge, Colorado and trained and competed with the Quantum Sports Club (QSC) for two years. While with QSC, Janowiak had over twenty-five race starts in Europe, the home of alpine ski racing.
The past two season’s Janowiak has been a member of the Park City Ski Team in Park City, Utah. For those two seasons, Janowiak’s primary forum for competition has been the NorAm circuit in Canada and the United States. The NorAm circuit is North America’s most elite level of alpine racing.
With roots in the mid-west, Janowiak in her early years excelled in alpine racing’s technical events, slalom and giant slalom. To this day these events may be Janowiak’s best events. Although, the speed events, downhill and super-g have perhaps become Janowiak’s favorite. This past season Janowiak established herself as one of the country’s best four event juniors.
Janowiak will begin on-snow training with the U.S. Ski Team in Mammoth Mountain, California in mid May. The on snow camp will be followed by a conditioning camp and medical testing at the Olympic Training Center in San Diego, California.
